Rewarding product innovation
Published:  23 April, 2009

The inaugural SOPX New Product Awards will be judged by a distinguished panel of industry figures representing the UK's dealers, retailers and wholesalers.

  • Jeanette Bresitz, head of merchandising, Spicers
  • Victoria McKenna, buying director, Ryman
  • Robert Moore, group purchasing director, OfficeTeam
  • Joanna Patterson-Gordon, managing director, Colemans
  • Martin Reid, managing director, Egan Reid
  • Andrew Stacey, vendor and product management director, VOW
  • Neil Basham, purchasing director, Integra

SOPX organiser, Chris Leonard-Morgan, said: "The need to find new products drives all buyers, and has never been greater. They are the lifeblood of the industry. The SOPX New Product Awards are open to all exhibitors at the Stationery & Office Products Show, and have been launched to recognise and celebrate excellence in product innovation."

The seven categories are: Writing Instruments; Paper Products; Desk Accessories; Machines; EOS and Computer Accessories; Packaging and Environmentally Friendly; plus overall New Product of the Year.

In other news from the organisers, SOPX is expanding into two shows in 2010, offering a stronger focus on stationery and office products, while also widening the event's appeal. The Stationery Show and Office Products Show will take place at the Business Design Centre, London in April.

Chris Leonard-Morgan said: "This is an exciting and natural development for the show, and great news for both buyers and suppliers. All products need to evolve and adapt to meet changing markets, and SOPX is no exception."

"Stationery has become increasingly fashion and consumer led which is best reflected in its own event, as is the trend for office products dealers to extend their offer beyond machines and EOS to furniture and FM, including catering supplies and jan/san.

"Whilst there is considerable overlap between the two sectors, they are also very different. The new format will enable us to provide a more effective platform for both."
